LINE ARCHITECTURE

Route type determines the path

IEPL private lines, relay routes and direct connections are not simply higher or lower tiers. They use different entry and exit arrangements, with distinct network conditions, use cases and cost structures.

IEPL private line

An IEPL private line keeps the main cross-border segment on a relatively fixed network path, so routing between the entry point and the overseas exit usually changes less. After connecting to a nearby entry point, traffic travels through the private segment to the target region and then reaches international websites through the corresponding exit. Its value is not a more prominent server name, but reducing the impact of unpredictable detours and congestion on public networks.

These routes are well suited to extended streaming, long remote-work sessions, code repository synchronization, large file transfers and AI Tools sessions that require connection continuity. Because route resources and scheduling costs are generally higher, providers often need to allocate capacity more carefully. In practice, choose an exit geographically close to the target service; a private line cannot eliminate the transmission distance caused by a faraway location.

RELAY

Relay route

A relay route first connects to a nearby access point, which then forwards traffic to an overseas exit. The entry and exit combination can be adjusted for different network conditions, helping avoid poor public routing when users connect directly to a distant server. The value of relaying is scheduling flexibility: multiple access directions can be configured for the same target region, making it easier to switch when network conditions change.

Everyday websites, social platforms, streaming and most AI Tools are good places to start with a relay route. It offers a practical balance between resource cost and connection performance, making it easy to understand for general use. Note that a relay server name describes the route structure, not necessarily the final region detected by a content platform; use the exit location to determine the region, rather than the access point name alone.

DIRECT

Direct connection

A direct connection links the local network straight to an overseas server, creating a simpler path with fewer relay steps. It depends more heavily on the quality of the public route from the user’s network provider to the target region, so performance may vary across networks, locations and times of day. When routing is smooth, direct connections handle lightweight access efficiently; when traffic takes a detour, switch to a relay or private line.

Direct connections suit ordinary web browsing, messaging, backup access and temporary access to a specific region. They generally have a more straightforward cost structure and help extend coverage to more locations. For long meetings, sustained transfers or stable streaming, do not choose direct access solely because its structure is simple; testing direct, relay and private-line routes in the same region is the best way to find a combination suited to the current network.

COST DIFFERENCE

Cost differences come from route resources

Route costs mainly reflect access resources, cross-border transmission paths, exit resources and scheduling and maintenance. IEPL private lines require more stable route organization and generally cost more in resources; relay routes require both access and exit infrastructure and adjustments based on network conditions; direct connections are simpler but depend more on public network quality.

For this reason, route selection should not focus only on the most resource-intensive option. Nearby relay or direct connections are sufficient for lightweight browsing; prioritize a private line for sustained transfers, remote collaboration and long sessions. Matching the route type to the intensity of the task is usually more practical than staying on one server indefinitely.

Choose a route by use case

First identify the target service’s location and the nature of the task, then choose a region and route type. Consider server distance, exit region, connection continuity and account region together.

Everyday browsing

For web browsing, research and messaging, start with a nearby Asia-Pacific location. Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore are often useful starting points. Try a relay route first; if the current network has a stable public route overseas, compare a direct route in the same region as well.

For everyday browsing, prioritize consistently loading pages and stable domain resolution rather than staying connected to a distant region for occasional access. If a website clearly offers regional versions, switch to the corresponding exit. This reduces unnecessary transmission distance and makes it easier to keep the site language, content and account region aligned.

Streaming and audio

Choose the exit region based on the content library first. Use a Japan exit for content available in Japan and a US exit for content available in the United States. Once the region is confirmed, compare an IEPL private line with a relay route in that same region. For continuous playback, connection continuity matters more than the brief impression when the page first opens.

Account registration region, content region and payment region may all affect what content is visible. Changing servers alone does not necessarily change existing account settings. If a page opens but the library differs, sign out and back into the app, check the account region and cache status, then try another exit in the same region. Frequent switching between regions may also change recommendations and login status.

AI Tools

AI Tools can involve different tasks, including web sessions, file uploads, image generation and API calls. For web chats, start with a nearby relay route; longer generation tasks, larger uploads and sustained calls in a development environment are better suited to a private line with a stable exit. The regions where a tool is available should also be confirmed against its published regional policy.

Keep the exit region consistent throughout the same workflow whenever possible. Switching countries repeatedly during a session may trigger a new login or alter regional settings. For development work, also check whether code dependencies, the console and API domains use the same connection policy, so the command line or development tool does not continue using the original network path while the browser uses an international route.

Gaming connections

For gaming, start with the location of the game server, not the publisher’s headquarters. For Asia servers, try the corresponding Asia-Pacific region first; for US or European servers, choose an exit close to the game server. Real-time interaction is sensitive to path changes, so compare routes before entering a match and avoid switching servers repeatedly during play.

Network acceleration can optimize the path between the user and the game service, but it cannot change the game server’s own status. If login, updates and gameplay use different domains, consistent connection rules may be needed. Use a route suited to sustained transfers for downloading updates; once in a match, switch to an exit whose path is closer to the game server.

Work and collaboration

Remote meetings, online documents, code repositories and file synchronization require connections to stay active for extended periods. Prefer an IEPL private line or relay route near the target service’s region, and test it before an important meeting or a large upload. If a business account is tied to a fixed work region, keep the exit location consistent with the organization’s policies.

Work scenarios also require attention to local network changes. When a device moves from wired to Wi-Fi, or from a fixed network to a mobile network, the existing connection may need to be re-established. Route selection and troubleshooting order

When access fails, checking the region, route type and app settings in a fixed order reduces unnecessary switching and makes it easier to identify which part of the path is causing the problem.

Confirm the target region first

Confirm the main region for the website, content library, AI Tool or game server. If the service publishes available regions, follow its guidance. When the account region and exit region do not match, first determine whether the account settings need adjustment instead of switching through several countries in succession.

Then compare routes in the same region

Within one region, compare IEPL private lines, relay routes and direct connections one at a time, without changing the country and route type simultaneously. Change only one condition at a time to determine whether the difference comes from geography or route structure. Once you find a suitable combination, save it as a preferred option in the client.

Check whether the app is using the route

Browsers, desktop apps, command-line tools and games may use different network settings. Being able to access a webpage does not mean every other app is using the same route. Check each app’s proxy settings, system network permissions and client connection status, then reopen the target app.

Keep the connection stable during work

After joining a meeting, transferring files, generating content or starting a match, keep the exit region unchanged whenever possible. If switching is necessary, save the current work first and then re-establish the app session. This helps reduce the impact of path changes on login status, upload tasks and long-lived connections.
